Ohio & Missouri Mining Co. stock certificate 1847
Very rare early mining company piece with multiple vignettes - George Washington, classical Greek female figures, and top allegorical male figure. Issued and pen cancelled. Smaller sized piece, measuring 3.5" by 8.5". Dated 1847.
Incorporated in 1846 in Cincinnati OH, the company owned and operated copper and lead mines in the nearby area. They focused on lead mining activities in Missouri. The mine was critical to the North in the Civil War for bullet and shot supply. Later acquired by the Picher Lead Company. The Picher Lead Company of Missouri merged with the Eagle White Lead to form Eagle-Picher Lead shortly after the Civil War.
