Product Description
Amateur Golfers' Association of America stock certificate 1987 (Florida)
Uncommon golfing piece. Nice vignette the group's logo. Issued and punch cancelled to the right. Staple holes at top of vignette. Dated 1987. Approximately 12 x 8 inches.
Incorporated in 1987, the company was formed to promote and host amateur golf tournaments. Today, related organizations include the African American Amateur Golfers' Association of America Tour (3AGA), and groups focused on amateur golf like the Amateur Golf Alliance and LPGA Amateurs. No current records are available on the group today since it went private in 1987.
Art Georgalis, a former Miami policeman, began forming the Amateur Golfers' Association of America with headquarters in Hollywood, Fla. The eventual goal is to organize regional, state, and local chapters whose aim is tournaments for everyone -- men and women, boys, and girls -- leading to national age-group championships. Among his associates in the AGA, he says, are golfer Bruce Devlin, former football stars Nick Buoniconti and Tom Harmon and ex-jockey Eddie Arcaro.
