Early OH telegraph company. Beautiful certificate with a a period steam train as the vignette. Unissued and not cancelled. Dated 187_ but circa 1877 from company records. Measuring approximately 11.5 x 8 inches.
Incorporated 1877 in Ohio, the Cincinnati & Eastern Telegraph Company was headquartered in Batavia, OH. The company operated just over 120 miles of telegraph wire with offices in the city of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, and Clermont County, Ohio.
The son of a prominent Clermont County business man, Charles T. Jamieson was the superintendent of the Cincinnati & Eastern Telegraph Co. and paymaster on the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad.
In 1883, the line was leased to the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad Company along which the company’s lines ran and stations were placed. Like most regional telegraph companies, became a subsidiary of Western Union Telegraph in 1877.
