Ohio railroad collectible. Great vignette of a period steam train passing under a bridge and pulling passenger railcars, people beneath telegraph lines watching it pass. Unissued and cancelled with holes through signature blocks. Dated 18__. Incorporated 1869 in Ohio. Measures approximately 10 x 6.5 inches.
In July 1869, Cincinnati, Sandusky & Cleveland Railroad (1868) became the Columbus, Springfield & Cincinnati Railroad when the Cincinnati, Sandusky & Cleveland Railroad (1866) reached an agreement on a lease for 99 years. The Columbus, Springfield & Cincinnati became the successor to Springfield & Columbus Railroad in this merger.
May 7, 1869, the Columbus, Springfield and Cincinnati Railroad Company was incorporated
September 4, 1869, the Springfield and Columbus Railroad was sold by Pierce to Columbus, Springfield and Cincinnati Railroad Company. Lease of the Columbus, Springfield and Cincinnati Railroad to Cincinnati, Sandusky and Cleveland Railroad Company.
1870. June 28 On this date the Columbus, Springfield and Cincinnati Railroad Company, entered into a contract with the Cincinnati, Sandusky and Cleveland Railroad Company, for the lease of its road property and rights.
In 1889 this would be part of the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St Louis Railroad. On November 1, 1890, the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway, commonly known as the “Big Four” acquired Cincinnati, Sandusky & Cleveland Railroad and the Columbus, Springfield and Cincinnati Railroad.
