Riddle Hospital is a non-profit, acute care hospital located in Media, Pennsylvania, offering a full range of healthcare services. It is part of the Main Line Health system. Riddle Memorial Hospital's history began with a significant bequest from Delaware County businessman and renowned racehorse breeder Samuel D. Riddle, who died in 1951 and left funds and land for a hospital in Media, PA; the hospital opened in 1963, fulfilling his vision for community care, and has since grown with modernizations and expansions, including a major 2023 campus renovation.

Delaware County PA was created on September 26, 1789, from part of Chester County and named for the Delaware River. The county is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, or Delaware Valley, region of the commonwealth.

Swedish Colonization (1643):
The first European settlement occurred under Swedish Governor Johan Printz, who established the first court, school, and church on Tinicum Island.

William Penn's Arrival (1682):
William Penn first landed in Pennsylvania at Chester (then called Upland) in 1682. In Chester, the General Assembly adopted the "Great Law of Pennsylvania," granting settlers rights such as religious freedom and trial by jury.

Separation from Chester County:
Delaware County was officially created on September 26, 1789, from the southeastern portion of Chester County.

Relocation of the County Seat:
Chester served as the original county seat until 1850. Residents in the northern and western interior campaigned for a more central location, leading to the move to Media in 1851.

Education:
The county is home to prestigious institutions like Swarthmore College, Villanova University, and Haverford College.
