Detroit Steel Corporation stock certificate 1969 (Michigan)

Steel industry stock certificate!  Nice vignette of an allegorical male figure with steel mills and industrial scenes in the background. Issued and cancelled. Dated 1969.  Incorporated in Michigan.  Measures approximately 12 x 8 inches.

Detroit Steel was founded by Anthony Bodde, and was incorporated in Michigan in 1923. The company was later acquired by Cleveland Cliffs, who immediately sold the Detroit Steel assets to Cyclops Corporation.

Detroit Steel Corporation was a steel manufacturer active from the mid-20th century that, after purchasing the Portsmouth Steel Company in 1950, modernized and expanded the Portsmouth, Ohio plant in 1956, and operated mills in Detroit, Michigan, and New Haven, Connecticut. It also operated warehouses in Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and New Haven. The company was later sold to the Cyclops Corporation and the Portsmouth assets were eventually shut down in 1980.  

The Portsmouth facility featured a large blast furnace, known as "Louise," and other modernization efforts that included new open hearth furnaces and rolling mills.  In 1969, Detroit Steel was sold to Cyclops Steel, and by 1980, the steelmaking operations at the Portsmouth plant were completely shut down, with the facilities later torn down and redeveloped.
