In 1896, Thomas Edison founded the Lamp Testing Bureau, which was later renamed Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) in 1904. The name was eventually shortened to ETL and by the late 1990s, ETL was part of Intertek.
"Electrical Testing Laboratories" (ETL), now a part of Intertek, is a historically significant organization founded by Thomas Edison that performs third-party testing, certification, and inspection of electrical and electronic products for safety and performance standards. The ETL Listed mark, which bears the ETL logo, is a widely recognized symbol of compliance with industry standards and is accepted by authorities and retailers.
