Product Description

Indianapolis and Western Railway was established 1874. In 1874, the Indianapolis & Western Railway (I&WR) was a relatively new entity, likely a component or subsidiary, appearing on railroad maps as a short line connecting to larger systems around Indianapolis, possibly related to the "Big Four" (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis) or routes towards Cincinnati, serving as a crucial feeder/distributor within Indiana's growing network, though it was not a famous transcontinental giant.
Merged 1907:
Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Eastern Traction Company (THI&E) on 1 March 1907. The Indianapolis and Western Railway, the Indianapolis and Eastern Railway, the Richmond Street and Interurban Railway, and the Indianapolis Coal Traction Company were predecessor companies.
