Product Description

King's Department Stores stock certificate 1968 (Delaware)

Modern vignette of a reclining female figure resting on a globe with modern city scene in the background.  Issued and cancelled. Dated 1968. Approximately 12 x 8 inches.

King's Department Stores was founded in Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1956. King's Department Stores was a defunct Eastern United States chain of discount department stores founded in 1956 that closed in 1984. At its peak, the chain had 187 stores, primarily located on the East Coast.

Retail chains acquired by King's:  Barker's Discount Department Stores (1980), Mammoth Mart (1977), Miracle Mart (1968) United States based chain, not to be confused with the Canadian chain by the same name, Sandy's Discount Stores (1966), and Welles (1973).

The company filed for bankruptcy in 1982 after a period of rapid expansion and the purchase of the Mammoth Mart chain in 1978. In 1984, Ames Department Stores purchased the company and converted most of the locations into Ames stores. Ames went out of business in 2002.
