Nash Motors Company was an American automobile manufacturer that operated as an independent entity from 1916 to 1937 and then as a division of the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation until 1954. It was eventually absorbed by Chrysler Corporation in 1987 after becoming a major part of the American Motors Corporation (AMC).

Nash Motors was founded in 1916 by Charles W. Nash, a former president of General Motors, who acquired the Thomas B. Jeffery Company in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The company quickly gained a reputation for building high-quality, durable, and affordable cars and became the leading producer of four-wheel drive military trucks (the Jeffery Quad/Nash Quad) during World War I.

1937: Nash Motors merged with the Kelvinator Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high-end refrigerators, to form the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation.

1954: Nash-Kelvinator merged with the Hudson Motor Car Company to form American Motors Corporation (AMC), at the time the largest corporate merger in U.S. history.

1957: AMC phased out the Nash and Hudson brand names to focus on the more successful Rambler and Metropolitan marques.

Nash was known for several engineering and design innovations:

Weather Eye heating and ventilation system:
Introduced in 1938, this system is the basis of all modern car heaters and drew fresh, filtered air from outside the car.

Unibody construction:
The 1941 Nash 600 was the first mass-produced American car to use unibody (unitized) construction, which improved fuel economy and structural rigidity.

Seat belts:
Nash offered seat belts as a factory-installed option in 1950, though consumer demand was low at the time.

Compact cars:
The Nash Rambler (1950) is widely considered the first successful modern American compact car, and the even smaller Nash Metropolitan (1954) was the first American-designed imported car.
