Product Description

National Bank of Oxford stock certificate c1950 (Pennsylvania)

Uncommon PA banking piece!  Great vignette of the bank building. Unissued and not cancelled. Circa 1950 from issued examples. Approximately 12 x 8 inches.

The National Bank of Oxford opened in 1865 and stopped printing money in 1935, which equals a 71-year printing period. During its life, the bank issued 27 different types and denominations of national currency. The National Bank of Oxford was in Chester County. It was assigned charter number 728. In 1963, the bank merged with and into Industrial Valley Bank & Trust Co., Jenkintown, Pa.

Industrial Valley Bank & Trust (IVB) was acquired by Fidelcor, the parent company of Philadelphia-based Fidelity Bank, in a transaction completed in 1986. In 1988, Fidelcor was merged into First Fidelity, a growing New Jersey bank. The $1.34 billion deal, the largest bank merger up to that time, turned First Fidelity into a regional powerhouse and one of the nation's 25 largest banks.

In 1996, First Fidelity was absorbed into First Union, which in 2001 merged with Wachovia, which was acquired by Wells Fargo in 2008.
