Patterson's Retail Cigar Company stock certificate circa 1927

Unique tobacco stock cert with a nice vignette of an eagle perched on a rock with wings spread. Unissued and not cancelled.  Circa 1927 from company records.

Incorporated in 1927 in Birmingham Alabama, this company grew tobacco and sold domestic cigars to small stores throughout the South. The company also had its own chain of retail cigar and tobacco stores as an extension  of the W. G. Patterson Cigar Company.  The company dissolved in 1929 with the wrong timing for business leading into the Depression. Competition from the larger tobacco companies pressured pricing and distribution.

The company supported Southern tobacco farms and farming companies but could not generate enough business to continue.  The company did business with Swisher (tobacco).
