Pittsburg and Erie Railroad Northern Division stock certificate c1856 (Pennsylvania)

Rare older RR cert from PA! Crude engravings as is typical of older pieces - eagles at the top, center steam train, and classical Greek female figure at the side. Unissued and not cancelled. Circa 1856 from cert printing and company records. Very light paper stock. Measures approximately 9.5 x 8 inches with stub. 

The Pittsburg and Erie Railroad Northern Division was originally chartered under Pennsylvania's Act of April 22, 1856 (see cert print), to connect Girard in Erie County, Pennsylvania, with Jamestown in Mercer County, linking the Lake Shore Railroad to interior routes toward Pittsburgh.

Its parent company the Pittsburg and Erie Railroad Company was incorporated in 1850 but failed to meet its initial charter to reach Jamestown. The later reincorporation in 1856 as the Northern Division to complete the obligation.
