San Diego Riverside and Los Angeles Railway stock certificate c1912 (California)
Product Description
San Diego Riverside and Los Angeles Railway stock certificate c1912 (California)
Failed CA interurban railway. Nice vignette of an American Eagle perched with wings spread. Unissued and not cancelled. Dated 1912 on the cert. Approximately 11.5 x 8 inches.
The San Diego Riverside and Los Angeles Railway Company incorporated 1912 in California to build an electric interurban railway from San Diego to Los Angeles via Escondido and Riverside.
The company was owned by the Southern California Utility Company and was incorporated to help promote the concerns of the utility.
Not listed in Railroad Names or both Cox references on North American Railroads. Based on historical records, it looks like the company negotiated and bought rights of way along the proposed route but did not operate as a functioning railroad.
Numerous examples exist for negotiations various municipalities and Balboa Park in San Diego. Some references note leasing of owned right of ways to other rail and streetcar companies.
Much like today’s fiasco of California’s High Speed Rail project, it never produced a moving train only paperwork and cost overruns.
