Product Description
Santa Barbara Searchlight Mining Company stock certificate 1908 (Arizona - Nevada)
Interesting NV/AZ mining certificate! Multiple vignettes in the border with a miner in every corner and on the left and right sides. The main vignette at the upper left shows multiple men working an underground mine. Issued and not cancelled. Dated 1908. Measures approximately 10.5 x 8.5 inches.
Incorporated 1908 in Arizona, the Santa Barbara Searchlight Mining Company operated in the Searchlight Mining District of Nevada, dealing in gold, silver, copper, and lead. The mine went idle in 1918 after demand floundered at the end of World War I.
The Searchlight mining district was discovered in 1897. Values of gold, silver, copper, and lead produced exceed $35 million in 1977 value through 1962.
It was part of a bustling era where other companies like Searchlight Helena also mined these rich deposits, though major production from the district ceased by the 1960s.
The company also operated mines in the Eldorado Mining District of Lincoln County Nevada (Rich Hill and Rich Hill Fraction Lodes) as noted by the Department of Interior notes in 1908. A newspaper article (1909) indicated the company built the Loder Gas smelter at Nelson Eldorado Canyon Nevada.
