The Marine Bank circa 1918 (Norfolk VA)
Product Description
The Marine Bank stock certificate circa 1918
Great banking piece with a neat engraved vignette of a sailor watching steam ships in the distance . Unissued and cancelled. Circa 1918 from company records. Dated 19__.
Incorporated in 1918, this uncommon Norfolk Virginia company ran banking operations from the solid, fort-like elevation of its granite building on the corner of Bank street. The bank was organized (by former Confederate officers) in the 1870's for post-war establishment of finances and rebuilding. The company underwent several iterations before, once again, becoming the Marine Bank of Norfolk in 1918.
