Origins:
Started with Kaspare Cohn's banking activities for wool merchants, formally becoming Union Bank & Trust Company in 1914, later shortened to Union Bank.
Holding Company:
In 1969, the parent company (Union Bancorp) was renamed Unionamerica, Inc., allowing it to expand beyond traditional banking into other financial services.
Reorganization:
By the 1970s, Unionamerica underwent reorganizations, separating its banking arm (Union Bank) from other activities, with shareholders owning stock in new entities.
Transformation:
The company eventually ceased to be a bank holding company by the early 1980s and transitioned to Genstar.
