The United States Electric Power Corporation was a utility holding company incorporated in Maryland in 1929 that was declared insolvent in 1936. It was formed by financiers and securities corporations to acquire the systems of Standard Gas & Electric Company and Standard Power & Light Corporation.
Formation:
Incorporated in 1929, the company was a trust organized to acquire public utility holdings. It was created by a group of investors, including the United Founders Corporation and Hydro-Electric Securities Corporation. It was established to take over the systems of Standard Gas & Electric Company and Standard Power & Light Corporation, with H. M. Byllesby & Company as a partner in the takeover.
