Uncommon RR bond. Wonderful vignette of a steam train with passenger cars passing over a low river bridge. Vertical format. Nice $1000 underprint in brown. Issued and cancelled. Dated 1890 from text. Folds from storage. Measuring approximately 14 x 9.5 inches.
The Black River and Utica Railroad Company was incorporated 1853, and opened in 1855. It was sold under foreclosure in 1860, and reincorporated 1861 as The Utica and Black River Railroad Company, which was opened to Philadelphia in February, 1893.
In 1883, the Black River and Morristown Railroad Company (incorporated 1870) was merged by consolidation; and merged 1886 with the Ogdensburg and Morristown Railroad Company and the Clayton and Theresa Railroad Company were merged by consolidation.
In 1886, the railroad and property of The Utica and Black River Railroad Company were leased to the Rome Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad Company. This lease was assumed by The New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company when, in 1891, it leased the railroad and property of the Rome Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad Company.
