Ocean View Cemetery, also known as Valhalla Burial Park is in Oakwood, Richmond County, New York. Ocean View Cemetery is a non-sectarian cemetery serving the needs of people of all religions and nationalities located in the Oakwood section of Staten Island.
Valhalla Burial Park was incorporated in 1924. The name was changed sometime during the 1940s to Ocean View Cemetery. At 105 acres, it is one of the island’s largest cemeteries. It is the resting place for over 50,000 loved ones.
In Norse mythology, Valhalla was “the hall of the fallen,” presided over by the god Odin. Here, guarded by wolves and eagles, heroes slain in battle enjoyed a warriors’ paradise— spending their days fighting and feasting.
