Incorporated in 1987, Viking Resources International operated as an oil and gas exploration and production company. An oil and gas exploration and production company with a history in the Appalachian and mid-continent basins. It was acquired by Magnum Hunter Resources in 2012.

In the 2012 acquisition, Magnum Hunter Resources (via its subsidiary Triad Hunter) bought Viking International Resources (Virco) for $106.7 million. The purchase included over 51,000 acres of mineral rights in the Appalachian Basin (Ohio and West Virginia) for oil and gas exploration in the Marcellus and Utica shales.

Magnum Hunter Resources Corporation, a former oil and gas company that filed for bankruptcy and later rebranded as Blue Ridge Mountain Resources. The company explored for and produced oil and gas, particularly in the Bakken and Eagle Ford shale plays, before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2015 and emerging under its new name.

Blue Ridge Mountain Resources Inc is an independent exploration and production company. It engages in the acquisition, development, and production of natural gas, natural gas liquids, and crude oil, in the states of West Virginia and Ohio. The firm operates through three segments: Upstream, Midstream and Oil Field Services. Its business activities include exploring crude oil and natural gas within US and Canada, marketing natural gas and operating a network of pipelines and compression stations that gather natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs). It also provides drilling services to oil and natural gas exploration and production companies.
