Woodward Cotton Company stock certificate 1915 (Oklahoma)

Woodward Cotton Company was incorporated in 1905 under the laws of the Oklahoma Territory per state corporate records (In 1907, Oklahoma became the 46th state).

Woodward is a city in and the county seat of Woodward County, Oklahoma, United States. Woodward was established 1887. Cotton has been grown in Woodward and the surrounding areas of western Oklahoma, particularly as a dryland crop. While winter wheat and cattle are traditionally the dominant agricultural products in the region, some farmers have grown cotton, often in combination with other crops like corn and sorghum. However, cotton yields in the area are heavily dependent on rainfall, and production is susceptible to drought. 

While specific cotton history in Woodward, OK is limited, the town was founded in 1887 as a shipping and provisioning point for cattle and military supplies. Cotton was a major crop for Oklahoma after statehood in 1907 and into the 2010s, though Woodward's agriculture also included the efforts of a USDA research station southwest of the town which began in 1913, focused on re-grassing and livestock rather than cotton. 

The city's history also includes significant economic development tied to the oil, gas, and wind energy industries, contributing to its growth and the establishment of a modern conference center.
