Nice railroad piece. Great top vignette of steam train with passenger cars, men on horses in the foreground and a steamboat paddle wheeler in the background. Issued and cancelled through the signature lines and with red pen "cancelled" on the face. Dated 18__ but circa 1877 from company records.
Incorporated 1877 in Delaware, the company ran routes to join the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay to compete with established canal companies. The company merged with The Delaware Railroad in 1899 (along with Queens Annes and Kent RR, Dorchester and Delaware RR) before becoming part of the Pennsylvania Railroad system.
