Uncommon Pittsburgh street railway. Fantastic vignette of the Pennsylvania state seal. Unissued and not cancelled. Circa 1901 from company records. Measures approximately 12 x 8 inches.   

The Eastern Rapid Transit Street Railway Company was incorporated in 1901 and was an unbuilt 20th-century transit enterprise incorporated in Pennsylvania by the Mack-Foederer Syndicate to control rapid transit routes.

Consolidation:
By October 1901, the corporate entity was absorbed or listed as an affiliated company under the Pittsburgh Railways umbrella system.

The Mack-Foederer Syndicate was a 1901 investment group backed by New York and local capital, including August Belmont, formed to secure street railway and rapid transit franchises in Philadelphia. Organized around 1900 to 1901, the group was led by figures like Mack and Robert H. Foederer to challenge existing transit monopolies.

The Pittsburgh Railways Company was formed as a subsidiary of Pennsylvania's transit giant, the Philadelphia Company. The company was established following the passage of the Focht-Emery Transit Acts of June 8, 1901. Pittsburgh's transit conglomerate officially began operation January 1, 1902.

The Southern Traction Company acquired several street railway companies and grew into one of the dominant electrified railway in the southern Pittsburgh area. The rapid evolution of light rail technology and the abundant growth in the city led to an increasing number of small, competing traction lines. By the turn of the century there was a need to create a modern, unified transportation system.

The Southern Traction Company acquired Pittsburgh Railways Company and, on December 31, 1901, adopted the name of the subsidiary company. The new entity consolidated the competing transit systems throughout the Pittsburgh and Allegheny region. Hundreds of established railways, and new chartered lines came together in a massive merger.
