The "Filmoptican Company" was a historic San Francisco business established 1915 that produced a combination slide projector and film projector to produce a 3D-like image on the screen. It’s first pieces of equipment were used in the 1915 world’s fair. Documents from San Francisco media revealed show instances of "opticon slides and moving film pictures" being presented together in California during that period. The company was later renamed (?) in 1920.

At the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, the "opticon" (often referenced as the Pan-Opticon or stereopticon) referred to sophisticated projection systems used for showing colored, dissolving, or panoramic views of international locations. These devices were popular, immersive entertainment technologies, distinct from early cinema, used to transport viewers.

The Panama–Pacific International Exposition was a world's fair held in San Francisco, California, United States, from February 20 to December 4, 1915. It was widely seen in the city as an opportunity to showcase its recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The fair was constructed on a site between the Presidio and Fort Mason, now known as the Marina District.

The combo projector drew from other technologies:

Stereopticon (Magic Lantern) Slides which were often used alongside moving pictures in presentations.

Kinopticon from Ernemann, Germany which comprised a metal lamphouse with chimney and lens, on a sliding track, and a 35mm. hand-cranked projection mechanism with film spool, crank and movement, all on a wood base.
