Product Description

Freeland Overall Manufacturing Company stock certificate 1930 (Pennsylvania) - cert number 3

Rare garment collectible. Great vignette of the Pennsylvania state seal. Issued and cancelled. Dated 1930. Signed by John Oberrender as president; he was the father of the sons that ran the business.  Rare low certificate number 3. Measures approximately 12 x 8 inches. Green border. Common (shares) underprint.

Incorporated 1921, the Freeland Overall Manufacturing Company was basically a closely held family company with very little stock shares distribution. This is proven in that this was only certificate #3 in 1930, nine years after incorporation.

Founded in 1896-1897 by Stanley E. Oberrender, William H. Butz, and Philip Blass, the Freeland Overall Manufacturing Co. in Pennsylvania became a major garment producer. It moved to a 40,000-sq-ft facility on South Ridge Street in 1913, expanding to produce 6,000+ daily pairs of overalls across two plants before closing in 1982

Origins:
The company originated in 1896 when Stanley E. Oberrender formed the Blass Overall Company; it became the Freeland Overall Manufacturing Co. a year later after Philip Blass sold his interest to William E. Bellas.

Key Personnel:
Following early ownership changes, Stanley Oberrender and his brother Elliot operated the company, with later involvement from their father, J.S. Oberrender.

Growth & Production:
A second factory opened in Dubois in 1906. By their peak, the two plants employed 400 people and produced 6,000 pairs of overalls daily.

Wartime Contribution:
The company produced garments for the government during World War I.

Location:
In 1913, the company built a 40,000-square-foot brick building on South Ridge Street near the Lehigh Valley Railroad depot in Freeland, PA.

Closure:
The company remained in operation until August 1982.
