Harrisburg Steel Corporation (founded 1853 as Harrisburg Car Manufacturing Company) was a major industrial manufacturer on N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, PA, known for producing rail cars, high-pressure gas cylinders, and alloy steel. It became Harrisburg Steel Corporation in 1935 and later combined with subsidiaries to form Harsco Corporation in 1956, which eventually became part of Enviri Corporation.

Origin:
Founded in 1853, the company initially focused on manufacturing railroad cars.

Name Changes:
It was known as the Harrisburg Pipe and Pipe Bending Company (1890) before becoming Harrisburg Steel Corporation in 1935.

Wartime Production:
During the World Wars, the company was crucial, creating high-strength manganese steel for dredging buckets, railroad trackwork, and producing gas cylinders.

The Transition to Harsco:
In 1956, Harrisburg Steel merged with other companies to form the diversified Harsco Corporation, which later became a multinational industrial services company.

Legacy:
The former factory location on North Cameron Street, which was a major employer and city landmark, saw significant industrial activity, with its site later undergoing redevelopment.
