Holland's Far-East Tea, Coffee, and Cocoa stock certificate 1929 (Massachusetts)
Holland's Far-East Tea, Coffee, and Cocoa stock certificate 1929 (Massachusetts)
Product Description
Holland's Far-East Tea, Coffee, and Cocoa stock certificate 1929 (Massachusetts)
Sold beverages. Humorous vignette of a little Dutch boy in wooden shoes holding 3 tins of the company's tea, coffee, and cocoa. Issued and not cancelled. Dated 1929 on the certificate. Signed by Daniel Holland as president and R.O. Holland as treasurer. Two vertical folds from mailing; light tears outside the border. Approximately 12 x 8 inches.
Holland's Far-East Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa Corporation was incorporated 1929 (company seal) by the Holland family in Massachusetts and headquartered in Boston (27 Haymarket Square Boston MA). However, the company did business and advertised as early as 1923 before issuing company stock.
The company produced a variety of coffee, tea, and cocoa products, all of which were packed in tin containers. It depended upon imports, especially the trading companies that shipped from overseas locations for these agricultural products. Its products included: “Holland’s Far-East Tea”, “Holland’s Far-East Coffee”, “Holland’s Far-East Cocoa”, and “Holland’s Far-East Hopped Malt Syrup”.
The company state charter was cancelled in 1933 for non-payment of taxes. Likely, the company was a victim of the Great Depression and the downward spiral of luxury imported items.
