Manchester Home Building and Loan Association stock certificate 1895 (Virginia)

Rare VA bank piece. Nice vignette of the bank building in Manchester (now Richmond) VA.  Issued and pen cancelled. Dated February 20 1895. Corporate stamp indicates 1887 incorporation. Approximately 10 x 7.5 inches. 

Established in 1887, Mr. J. F. Bradley was a one-time president and Mr. A. J. Bradley, secretary. The Bradleys were part of a group of Richmond area investors and businessmen (including Ira and William Anderson) who financed the Manchester Home Building and Loan Association as part of an effort to promote real estate activity in Manchester VA. Bank is believed to do business up until 1924.

J. F. Bradley and A. J. Bradley were also associated with an abandoned quarry property in the Manchester area of Richmond, Virginia. The quarry shipped coal and other minerals out of the Manchester docks. Historical records found in the context of the James River Park System trails refer to the "Abandoned Quarry (JF & AJ Bradley Property)" as a point of interest or historical ruin along the Buttermilk Trail and James River North Bank Loop. 

Manchester is now a part of Richmond VA, annexed May 1910.
