Michigan Radio Corporation stock-sized bond certificate 1924 (Grand Rapids MI) - cert #4

Neat radio company collectible. Plain certificate but a lot of history in radio manufacturing. 7% bond. Issued and not cancelled. Vertical folds from storage or mailing. Dated 1924.  Measures approximately 11 x 8.5 inches.

Michigan Radio Corporation was founded around 1913 by Milhart Klicpera. Incorporated as Klitzen Radio Manufaturing Co. in October 1919, and obtained an Armstrong license. Advertised regenerative set in Radio Amateur News, April 1920.

Sold regenerative tuner and detector-amplifer through Barawik 1921 and Montgomery Ward in 1921 and 1922. Sublicensed to Michigan Radio Corp. in 1922, sued by Westinghouse in 1923, ended up in March 1924 with Michigan as sales agency for Klitzen.

Running scared, Klitzen canceled the Michigan sub-license resulting in Michigan falling on hard times. However, by 1924, somehow the whole mess was cleared up with Michigan becoming a sales agent for Klitzen after a $26,000 royalty payment to Westinghouse. Michigan was known for its Midget, Four, Junior and Senior sets, amongst others.

In 1927, the Imperial Radio Corporation was formed in Grand Rapids to acquire the properties of the Michigan Radio Corporation and the Klitzen Radio Manufacturing Company.

Klitzen dissolved on January 1, 1927.

Production Connection:
Many of their early sets (like the Michigan "Senior" and slope-front units) closely mirrored or were manufactured under sub-licenses/agreements with the Klitzen Radio Mfg. Co. of Racine, Wisconsin.

Design:
Known for early vacuum-tube technology, slanted wooden cabinets, and engraved control panels featuring multi-lever tuner and tickler controls.
