Impressive vignette of miners working underground. Unissued and not cancelled. dated 18__. Circa 1887 from corporate records. Measures approximately 11.5 x 7.5 inches.
Incorporated 1887 in the Territory of Idaho, associated with Canyon Creek in Shoshone County. While the company's primary focus was the Helena-Frisco Mine in the area, records indicate it produced significant amounts of ore, with a 100% ownership stake in the Helena-Frisco Mine between 1888 and 1899. The mine produced silver, lead, and gold.
The Milwaukee Mining Company constructed the Gem Mill in 1889. In 1897, the Gem Mill became the Hecla Mill. The mill concentrated ore until the Hecla Mine closed in July 1944; from 1944 to 1948, the Hecla Mill operated mainly on tailings
Frisco Mining Co. Ltd. purchased the Milwaukee Mining Co., owner of the Gem of the Mountains mine, in 1899. The Frisco Consolidated Mining Co. Ltd. purchased the Black Bear Mining Co., owner of the Black Bear mine, in 1900.
