Nice NY short line railroad piece. Vignette of a steam train with cars passing a a river scene with boat. Unissued and not cancelled. Circa 1910. Dated 19__ on the cert. Approximately 11 x 8 inches. Based on issued examples, this version was used after 1910.
The Montgomery and Erie Railway was incorporated in 1866 in Goshen Orange County with its principal office in Montgomery. It was a single-track line, located entirely within the State of New York and extended from Goshen to Montgomery, about 10.5 miles.
The property of the Montgomery and Erie was solely operated by the Erie or its predecessors and their receivers from January 1, 1872, to December 31, 1917, under lease agreement dated December 16, 1871. The property of the Montgomery and Erie was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration on January 1, 1918, as a part of the system of the Erie. The line continued to operate under Erie up until 1954.
