Product Description

Mount Joy Bank stock certificate circa 1860 (Pennsylvania)

Extraordinarily rare banking collectible. Elaborate center vignette of Pennsylvania state seal and left side image of a woman with a bundle of wheat on her head.  Unissued and not cancelled. Dated 18__ but circa 1860 from incorporation records. Heavy front side foxing from age and wrinkles/folds. Measures approximately 9.75" wide and 6.5" tall.

While checks from the bank are found in the collectibles market, this is the only example of the bank's stock certificate that I have seen.

(From the Mount Joy historical society) The first bank in the Borough was the Mount Joy Savings Institution, incorporated in 1853 and located at 87 East Main Street. It became a state bank in 1860, called the Mount Joy Bank, and in 1865 was organized under the national banking law with the name Union National Bank Mount Joy Bank. The bank, now named Union Community Bank, has occupied its current Beaux Arts building at 101 East Main Street since 1911.
