Nevada Finance and Development guarantee certificate 1907 (Nevada) - signed Van Duzer, swindler
Product Description
Nevada Finance and Development guarantee certificate 1907 (Nevada) - swindle?
Signed by swindler. Plain certificate with a scandalous history of the issuing company and president. Issued and not cancelled. Some splits along vertical folds. Dated 1907. Measures approximately 10 x 7.5 inches.
Incorporated in 1907, The Nevada Finance and Development Company, was located at Meina, Nevada. This Collateral Investment Guarantee (like a bond or CD) paid 1 percent per month to investors. The certificates were issued by C. D. Van Duzer & Co. and hand signed by C. D. Van Duzar.
Issued to C. G. Cloud (also C. G. Cloud was the owner of five hundred shares of The Golden Rod Mining Company (S. Dakota 1902)). This coincidence leads one to believe he was an investor in western mining. A newspaper snippet from that era mentions a "C. G. Cloud" who, despite being worth millions, was an inmate of a county almshouse and died.
C.D. Van Duzer was a figure from early 20th-century Nevada, known as a former Congressman involved in questionable mining ventures, particularly around Virginia City, who faced arrests and financial issues, leaving unpaid bills and associates in the lurch, with one notable incident involving him skipping town in Pittsburg after selling mining claims without settling his debts in 1909. He was associated with finance and development companies, like the Nevada Finance and Development Co., and appears in historical records related to Nevada's mining boom.
Who knows if this investment was part of Duzer’s scams.
