The New Orleans Great Northern Railway (also known as the “Nogan”) was a railroad company incorporated in 1905 in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi by the owners of the Great Southern Lumber Company, primarily built to serve the timber industry and connecting Slidell, Louisiana, to Jackson, Mississippi. It was the successor to the East Louisiana Railroad. Known as "The Ozone Route," it was later absorbed into the Gulf, Mobile and Northern Railroad (GM&N) and eventually the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio (GM&O) system after a 1933 reorganization.

Incorporation and purpose:
The Nogan was created by lumbermen who needed to transport timber from their holdings in Louisiana and Mississippi to a new, large-scale sawmill in Bogalusa, Louisiana.

Route:
The mainline ran about 250 miles from Slidell, Louisiana, to Jackson, Mississippi, with westward branches including one from Rio, Louisiana, to Tylertown, Mississippi, and a Shoreline Branch from Slidell to Covington and Folsom.

"The Ozone Route":
The railroad was nicknamed "The Ozone Route," a reference to the fresh air in the southeastern Louisiana parishes where it operated.

Successor companies:
The Nogan eventually became part of the larger Gulf, Mobile and Northern Railroad system through a stock exchange agreement in 1929. After falling into receivership in 1932, it was reorganized and leased to the GM&N in 1933, and later became part of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad following a merger in the 1940s.
