Cool railway collectible. Fantastic vignette of a steam train with passenger cars, riverboat in the background. Unissued and not cancelled. Dated 18__. Circa 1879 from company records.
Prior to 1868 all merchandise was hauled from St. Joseph, then from Maryville until the building of the Nodaway Valley Railroad in 1880. Incorporated 1879, the line ran from Bigelow MO to Burlington Junction MO. The Nodaway Valley Railroad was leased to the Kansas City, St. Joseph and Council Bluffs Railroad. The line was sold to the Chicago Burlington and Quincy RR in 1881. The railroad would eventually be taken over by the Burlington Northern Railroad before eventually being abandoned around 1900.
