Product Description

Swisher International stock certificate 2000 (Nevada)

Great cigar certificate. Modern vignette of the company's logo at the time. Printed signature of Patrick L Swisher as president. Incorporated in Nevada, operated in Florida. Issued and not cancelled. Dated 2000 on the cert.  Approximately 12 x 8 inches.

Swisher's history began in 1861 when David Swisher started a small cigar business in Newark, Ohio, which became Swisher Brothers under his sons in 1888. The company moved its headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1924, and later rebranded as Swisher International before its most recent name change to Swisher in 2020. Key developments include the launch of the Swisher Sweets brand in 1958 and the 2014 acquisition of Drew Estate Tobacco Company.

1861: David Swisher receives a small cigar business as a debt settlement in Newark, Ohio.

1888: David Swisher sells the company to his sons, Harry and John, who rename it Swisher Brothers.

1895: Under the brothers' leadership, the company grows to three factories and over 1,000 employees.

1913: John H. Swisher buys out his brother Harry's share, and his son Carl joins the business, renaming it Swisher & Son.

1924: Carl Swisher moves the company headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida, citing the area's climate, shipping facilities, and proximity to raw materials.

1958: The company introduces its now-famous Swisher Sweets brand.

1966: William Ziegler III's American Maize-Products company purchases Swisher, and Ziegler becomes chairman.

1970s: The company expands its brands and global reach, and Ziegler becomes CEO.

1986: Swisher acquires Universal Cigar, maker of the Optimo brand.

1992: William Ziegler III becomes CEO and changes the company's name to Swisher International Inc.

1996: Swisher International Group Inc. takes its parent company public.

2014: Swisher acquires the premium cigar maker Drew Estate Tobacco Company.

2020: The company rebrands from Swisher International, Inc. to Swisher.
