Chicago Oil Company stock certificate 1900 (Bakersfield, California)

Oil company operated in Mojave Desert. Cool oil field with wells as the vignette. Gold underprint at bottom with oil fields, oil storage, and steam trains. Issued and not cancelled. Dated 1900. Vertical folds from mailing. Measures approximately 10.5 x 8 inches.  

The Chicago Oil Company in California was incorporated in Bakersfield, CA in 1900 and was engaged in exploratory drilling operations on the Mojave Desert north of Barstow.

Active during the early 1910s, with documented field reports highlighting progress in late 1911 alongside neighboring operations like the Kramer Oil Company in the Barstow area. Newspaper articles from 1912 stated that the company had good flow of oil form one of its operations. The company operated at least past 1918 but probably succumbed to consolidation with other oil companies.
