Oil in Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Nice left side vignette of a seated Lady Liberty with shield holding up a wreath. Issued and not cancelled. Dated 1903. Vertical folds from mailing. Light split at bottom outside of border. Measures approximately 11 x 8 inches.
Incorporated 1903 in Arizona and operated oil exploration and drilling in the modern area of Oklahoma under leases from the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes. Tribes held title to the land and managed mineral resources through complex lease and royalty agreements.
