Continental Passenger Railway Company of Philadelphia stock certificate 1883 (Pennsylvania) 

Great Philadelphia horse drawn trolley company. Top wide vignette features an American Bald Eagle with wings spread. Lower right is a Lady Liberty statue. Female figures at the bottom. Issued and cancelled. Dated 1883. Measures approximately 10 x 6.5 inches.

The Continental Passenger Railway Company was a 19th-century street railway (horse cart) enterprise chartered in Pennsylvania on September 3, 1873, by prominent transit magnates Peter A. B. Widener and William H. Kemble.

It operated urban transit lines, including the 17th and 19th Streets Passenger Railway, in Philadelphia. The line was leased to the Union Passenger Railway in 1880, who subsequently leased it to the Philadelphia Traction Company four years later.

Incorporation:
September 3, 1873, in Pennsylvania.

Founders:
Peter Arrell Brown Widener and William H. Kemble.

Legacy:
Its leadership and affiliated networks later consolidated into larger transit consolidations leading to the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company.
