E. A. Edwards Oil and Refining Company stock certificate 1918 (Arizona)

The E. A. Edwards Oil and Refining Co. was a historical 1918 corporate entity in Kingman AZ that featured large holdings in Chino Valley Arizona and traded its shares on the Denver Consolidated Stock Exchange.

Contemporary 1918 reports from the Mohave County Miner noted that the company had “large holdings in Arizona” and sought listings on regional exchanges. It also had holdings in Oklahoma.

E. A. Edwards was a prominent promoter and oil developer connected to the Sharlot Hall Museum history of the Chino Valley oil boom in Arizona during World War I. He served as a key figure for the Arizona Oil and Refining Co. around 1917–1918.

The company also featured a master of promotion in the form of Dr. E. A. Edwards. In an interview with the Arizona Mining Journal, Edwards claimed a long list of impressive - if somewhat questionable - accomplishments, including the discovery of several major oil fields and a founding role in America's oil industry. Edwards concluded the interview with the observation that, "from my own personal examination and past experience, the Chino Valley oil fields will become to Arizona what the Whittier, Ventura and Taft fields, with which I was identified, have been and are to California."

Despite grand predictions and talk of his proprietary "Edwards System of Refining Petroleum," the speculative boom yielded zero commercial oil production or barrels of oil by the end of 1918.
