Isabella Gold Mining Company stock certificate c1890s (Cripple Creek Colorado)  

Another great Cripple Creek Colorado mining collectible. Fantastic eagle vignette with American Indian hunting buffalo to the side. Issued and cancelled.  Light water stains as is typical for this piece. Circa 1890s (date faded but based on other examples) for 500 shares. Measures approximately 11.5 x 8 inches.

The mines owned by Isabella were some of the largest gold producers in Colorado. The company was founded circa 1892 by the silver king and railroad tycoon, James Hagerman.

Hagerman bought the Buena Vista Mine for over $200,000 and other claims on Bull Hill and Bull Cliff which started the Cripple Creek boom. The Isabella was also involved in the 1894 labor war. The conflict started when the company announced that it would pay miners $3.00 for a ten-hour work day, vs. the eight-hour normal salary.

Isabella produced gold up until World War II. The mines were eventually run by the United Gold Mines Company. During its life, the Isabella's mines generated over $15 million in precious metals which made they one of the largest producers in the in the Cripple Creek Mining District.

Primarily 1892–1917, with stock certificates known from 1892 to 1901.

Significance:
Known as one of the largest gold producers in the area, often causing, The New York Times reports, "greatest excitement" on mining stock exchanges.
