The Parah Gold Mining Company is a historical minor mining enterprise, established 1898 during the gold rush era in the Cripple Creek Mining District of Colorado. Parah Gold Mining Company had mines at Victor.
Historical Context:
Like hundreds of speculative ventures formed during the Cripple Creek boom, it was part of the region's intense gold-mining promotional era, though it is not a major active commercial producer today.
Modern District:
The active large-scale operation in the area is the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine (historically the Cresson Mine), operated by SSR Mining.
Victor CO is a historic mountain town in Teller County, Colorado, known as the "City of Gold Mines".
Founding:
Settled in 1891 after gold discoveries by Winfield Scott Stratton and the Woods family; incorporated in 1894.
Boom & Bust:
Reached a peak population of 8,000 to 18,000 around 1900 during the Cripple Creek Gold Rush. Rebuilt with brick after a devastating 1899 fire.
Labor History:
Central location for the militant Western Federation of Miners strikes (1894 and 1903–1904).
Modern Era:
Underground mining faded mid-century, and open-pit gold mining resumed in 1994 via the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company.
